<p dir=ltr>It’s a well known fact that when it comes to Kenyan movies, we are seriously slacking. With all the talent we have in the arts, it’s a shame that we only have one or two notable movie releases in a year. But with that said, it seems that lately when movie makers decide to make a good movie, they go ALL OUT.</p><p dir=ltr>Kenya has long been a popular destination for filmmakers with the readily accessible wildlife, spectacular landscapes and traditional cultures making it the perfect cinematic setting for a range of productions including the Academy Award winning Out of Africa, the real-life murder mystery White Mischief, and, more recently, To walk with the lions, the biopic of famed conservationist George Adamson.<br>Other productions include 14 Million Dreams (2003), 6000 km di paura (1978), Haba na Haba (2013), The baisikol ( 1997), Balloon Safari (1975), Boran Herdsmen (1974), Boran Women (1974), The First Grader (2010), Flip Flotsam (2003), Forest Chainsaw Massacre (2006), From a Whisper (2008), Nangos (2009), Nairobi Half Life (2012), Rise and Fall of Idi Amin (1981), The Rugged Priest (2011), Saïkati (1999), Shuga (TV series) (2009), Something Necessary (2013),The Stigma (2007) just to mention a few.</p><p dir=ltr>An aspiring actor from upcountry Kenya dreams of becoming a success. In pursuit of this he makes his way to Nairobi: the city of opportunity! It goes without saying that Nairobi Half life is the biggest movie Kenya witnessed in 2012 and dare I say in a decade. The only movie that has ever been submitted to the Hollywood Oscars and has literally put Kenya on the film map (if one does exist).</p><p dir=ltr>Riverwood is a movement, a revolution, a transformation, a destiny and a film future of limitless possibilities. In a special event, the ensemble was launched in the presence of key government figures in the creative docket. Many Kenyans are aware of the vibrant and busy environment that has built the Riverwood film scene but the intricacies of where it has been and how it has to where it is remain unclear.</p><p dir=ltr>Riverwood is part of the solution. If the business model is adopted as part of the national film policy, it can offer a lot of solutions for the industry. The way the men and women run this industry means that if there was more government involvement in terms of understanding the model and appraisals, the Kenya film industry would grow rapidly and reach international acceptable standards fast.</p><p dir=ltr>The local film industry generates employment, fosters economic activity and preserves the nation’s culture. It also is an avenue of transferring morals and values and contributes to the evolution of social and democratic processes.</p><p dir=ltr>It is also a useful tool of tapping artistic energies of creative Kenyans, and a vehicle for diversification of exports as local films can be marketed in other countries. The money spent in the local economy during location filming has been a major boost in creating employment.</p>

I mean, is it the fault of the government that an egg that was retailing for Kshs 150 when James, an upcoming investor was investing in the business now goes for Kshs 20? I don’t think so. Whose fault is it then? Well, I won’t want to point a finger. That is why I will put the blame on the market. The market determines the price of an item depending on its availability relative to those who want it. The rapid change in the price was a result of many peoples’ interpretation of a piece of information in the same way.  </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">All over a sudden, someone asserted that a quail egg contained more proteins compared to the normal eggs from chicken we were used to. By that evening, everyone was looking for these golden eggs to add more proteins. This drove the price even higher.   Investors on the other hand interpreted the information to mean that more people will want to consume these eggs. With this reasoning, James among other investors rushed to invest in this seemingly profitable venture. After a while, the while taken to rare quails so they can produce eggs, more of the produce was coming to the market while consumption was constant if not declining. As more and more eggs came to the market, the price declined and today these eggs are 20 bob each. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">One disadvantage of such an investment is that people invest at a very high cost and sell at a very low cost. The profitability of any seemingly profitable investment depends on how people will interpret the information of scarcity, surplus or need in the market. Before putting your money in it, it is advisable to ask yourself this question; what is it that may prevent anyone else from investing in it as well?  This question becomes more fundamental when the information on scarcity or need is with the public. Notice that, many ventures remain profitable by investors failing to disclose their profitability. When the press spills the beans, it pays to consider how investors will position themselves and secure a safer position for your money.  </div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div>

HOW TO ACQUIRE COURAGE TO BE A SUCCESS

The teenagers of today oftenly miss opportunities that would push them to the next levels of life. Our goals are usually seen in our minds but curtains of fear block our ways through to success and we often give up pursuing our dream carriers when questions of; What if I die before? How? They are meant to be your guideline in goal and target setting. It is a gospel truth that it is risky because he can be shot or he shoots the opponent. For if civilization had to be proved by adhering to fashion, then many of our university professors are uncivilized. But what is this fashion that has to be adhered to, what do I mean by fashion?  Different people have different definitions of fashion depending on so many other factors. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Factors like income, age, education, environment among others have much to say on what one thinks is fashionable. For example, I have found my views about fashion changing as I was growing up. In class one, it was fashionable in our rural area to have a playing wheel, this could come from the top lid of the twenty liter cooking fat container or a used up car tyre.  The bigger the tyre one had the more fashionable it appeared. Today I find what is up to date fashion completely different from what I thought then, I want the latest smart phone, a car, a three piece Italian suit, and of course, a diamond teeth. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">What I liked then was different from what my fellow mates of the same age, probably in class three while I was still struggling with class one, in urban centers. Neither were the slum dwellers in agreement in fashion with the street children nor with their mates in estates. The same as today, not every other graduate agrees with me on what is fashionable. High school pupils have a perception of the same which is different from what university mates have or even what their fellow mates have. One form two pupil will tell you fashion is toping in class and in science contests, another, probably a lazy one will tell you fashion is drinking, sneaking out of school and knowing a particular new dance style made in Jamaica.  Despite the different perceptions, we have no means of gauging which fashion is ‘really fashionable’ than the other. Trying to compare the two is like comparing a basket ball player to a rugby one. </div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">In conclusion, I don’t really know what specifically fashion is. But for me, I have constructed an image of what I think is fashionable. Wait, have I just constructed or is it really what is?  Yea, it is what is in my world. Maybe then our professors are not that blind to fashion. If then we are the ones to mark what the world presents to us as fashionable, is not easy for each of us to mark as wrong some social habits that are a menace to the society? For example, to me it is not fashionable to sleep with a thousand girls, to sniff cocaine till my eyes can no longer open, neither is it fashionable to drink all my salary but African is. Oh my God! I forgot about civilization. I did not realize I was supposed to link the two. What do we do now? I have an idea, we can make a deal. I discuss with you civilization next, then on Friday night we meet at my favorite joint to see if the two link in any way. Do we have a deal?</div>
