Not once did I imagine a company that seemed so thriving could be owned, and managed by a second year University student. Since it is in the heart of us here at Lets Shine Africa to keep you informed on opportunities in the business world, I took it upon me to dig a little about Heroes Technologies. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">I made a visit to their offices and requested to talk to anyone in authority. There, one of the several sales people directed me to the manager’s office. Once in, I was welcomed by a young man who at first I mistook for an assistant. His name was Henry. When he comfortably set on the boss’s chair, my senses realized I was talking to a big man and not a mere boy. He was very composed and jovial too, occasionally cracking jokes and smiling confidently as he narrated to me his story. I asked him a few questions that gave me a picture of who he was and what Heroes technologies did. Here is a summary of that interview I did on him.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Who is Henry?</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">I am a student, and a business man. I am a second year student at J.K.U.A.T doing Bsc (Information Technology).  I am also the founder and manager of Heroes Technologies. (he smiled)</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Tell me about Heroes Technologies,</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Well, we are licensed resellers of E.T.R (Electronic Tax Registers) machines; we also offer other services like business registration and doing returns for businesses, and supply laptops and computers. The company has ten sales people, whom are paid on commission, we are in our third year and from the look of things, we are doing great. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">How did Heroes come in to being?</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Everything that is good can only come from hard work and creativity. I was working with a company that is in the E.T.R business one year after I finished my fourth form. The owner, who happens to be my mentor, liked me very much as a sales person. I was doing better than anyone. I approached him one day to talk about my salary, the commission was so little and the retainer of ten thousand a month could barely afford me comfort even with my many sales. He agreed to raise my retainer by two thousands but refused to talk about the commissions. I was dissatisfied. I thought about it overnight. The following morning I was in his office. I was quitting, that is what I told him. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Henry paused, sipped water and then continued,</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">He asked me whether I wanted to share with him his profits so that I could continue working for him. He was becoming irritated by me I could tell. I told him I wanted something that could reward my efforts proportionately. I suggested to him the idea of a reseller. I said it just lightly because I did not expect him to buy it but funny enough he did. He just could not let me go. I used my salary for that month to register Heroes and that is where we begun. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Where do you see Heroes in the next ten years?</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">I can tell, with the East African Community, I am sure we will be in the region when it comes in to being. Once they harmonize the taxation policies I believe there will be bread for us and family.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">We talked a lot, some of his challenges especially how he balances studies with management. His story is of a business minded young man who utilizes the art of licensing to his benefit.  Licensing has been used by intelligent business people around the globe to venture in to businesses that are less competitive and even more rewarding. You just have to identify the opportunity when it comes because such opportunities are not always present. This calls for us to be always informed and follow what is happening around us and around the globe. BEFORE YOU KICK BACK THE YEAR 2014 AND WIN IN 2015

<p>2014 has been both hot and cold and to others warm and cool, but the fact remains that it has helped us in one way or the other. </p><p>Some of us got jobs in 2014 and some were sacked, some of us produced children and others have lost beloved ones, some are dead by now and you and I are still alive and of course some are sick now and others are healthy, some are heartbroken and others are deep in love. Some have married and others have divorced. I can mention but a few. </p><p>I believe we have seen all this, but now I tell you that whether you got your worst disappointment this year, you in one way benefited from it because 2014 has been able to hold you in its arms without dropping you to the dust. How to make a difference and change the World in 2015

I know you want to make a difference. There is a voice inside telling you that no matter where you are you can cause the world around you to be better in atleast one way. You dont need to touch a million people but if you can trully have someone smile or thank God for you, then you have touched a life. This are a few ways you can be someone's angel in 2015. <br /><b>1. Give your time</b><br />As much as one can give everything but try as much to spend quality time with friends and family. <br />Offer to take someone for a walk, a treat, a movie or a safari. You never forget memories that are made in this way.<br /><b>2. Give your ear</b><br />You already know that so many a times the people around you just like you at some point face hills and valleys in life. <br />You might not help by removing the hill or filling the valley but when you give them a listening ear, you allow them to relieve the pressure within them. This gives them room to better solve their problems. People have solutions but the pressure makes the solutions invisible.<br /><b>3. Give your wealth</b><br />You dont need to have millions to give, but you might have an rxtra shoe, an extra dress, an extra tie or suit that might be a blessing to someone God shall show you. Pay someone's fare to town not because you want them to pay yours someday.<br />Pay someone's rent when they least expected even if they can afford. <p>Your resolution is to meet prince charming, have lots of fun together and start a family, and live happily there after. Maybe its one of those last year resolutions that you are carrying forward. I thought about that and from a man's point of view, there is a problem needed to be addressed to cause your dream to come to pass.</p><p>You are beautiful, confident, learned, maybe working, you dress neatly, you are consistent with style and keen with hygiene... thank you very much! I would love such a girl. But how do you interact?</p><p>I would approach you for a relationship if you dont want to show me how expensive you are, how busy you are and how sophisticated you are. Yes, these are great traits and we have been taught to do so but honestly to have yourself on the path to have a ring down your finger, you have to be; social, you have to have time for people. You need to socialize with your mates in college, campus, church or work. Don't be afraid to overdo. You are intelligent, so when people think you are lose, you know that you are not. Men are intimidated by inapproachable ladies, who seem to be so busy or choosy. </p><p>Most of the time, your prince charming may not come to you fitting your desired list. Today, we abandon the self centered discussion that focused on Africa and move to discuss the general idea of forming trade blocks. My subject here therefore is to show that trade blocks are necessary for both rich and poor nations.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Nations, like individuals are not self sufficient such that they can provide all they need by themselves.  The forces that occasion exchange and specialization for individuals act to occasion the same for nations. By exchanging what we have in surplus for what is scarce to us, we are able to command more goods than we can produce by ourselves.  In the course of time, due to changes in preferences of majority of individuals, some resources which prior bore little value may turn to be most valuable. Some raw materials further are only available in some nations yet humans can’t survive without. Though the resources are scarce in some nations, to the continent, or the world they are not. The above statements emphasize on the importance of trade.</div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Trading is a good example of scratching my back so that I may scratch yours. Trade blocks remove boundaries and enlarge each of the nations’ trading horizons. Under a block, more diverse resources are brought   together and the block can claim the production of more products and a bigger market. Unlike the world of charity and religion where benevolence can be relied upon, in business world the powers of benevolence come second in command after those of the market. Market power is determined by the much you can buy or sell as individuals, nations or even blocks. Just as individuals pull to their circles many friends to protect themselves from certain hazards of life, nations also, and only the rational ones, aim at pulling to their circles as many allies as they can so as to be able to speak in the world of trade. These tendencies, and you will bare me witness, are very common in the world of business where many firms in the same industry come together formally or informally.   </div>

Wait a Minute!!! Have You Ever Been Awarded an Achievement?? This is Why You deserve it for this year!!!

<p>Have you ever been awarded an achievement? Have you? It is a question a small child about 8 yrs old asked me and that got me thinking saying ummmmmm.... I don't know about you but I had to scratch my head.</p><p>Not that I have never been awarded anything but I have not been keen to list my achievements that you could ask me and I give you the list there and then. Just like many others I have had my head clouded with what I didnt do well and what I did not achieve that I can easily count them.</p><p>We focus on the wrong and the negative so much that we forget the beautiful achievements that we have acquired along the way. I agree that many a times you have done great things that maybe nobody came to appreciate you or it seemed as if nobody noticed. That doesn't change the fact that you are an achiever.</p><p>Well lets take a look at a few achievements that someone may not notice to award you. At the point of birth you were a winner since out of 600,000,000 sperms released, you are the one in that big number to manage to hit the egg. You are better than 600,000,000. It might be the way you take care of your family, how you drive that bus, how you inspire people, how you have managed to remain hopeful despite of the hard times, how you lived with that disease for that long and still managed a smile and how you successfully kept that marriage that long amidst all challenges... </p><p>You know very well that there is an area in your life that you have done well. Take stock and thank God then award yourself a treat over this holiday. You are a winner and an achiever. There, at my right hand would be the proponents of the one Africa argument. At my left, I would invite the antagonists for the argument, with their western think tanks that have been so much influential to their reason. I am sure we would win the argument, for it is what is right, but since they don’t refuse unity with facts but out of fear that has been inflicted to them, well, we had better continue the discussions here.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">My second argument was to be based on my response as to why anyone has to unite anyway. What is the reasoning behind unity? I will illustrate my point with an activity. Imagine a bundle of 53 counting sticks that you would want to break each in to two pieces. The easiest way would be breaking each stick at a time. If you unite two of them with an elastic string, breaking them is possible but a little harder than breaking one. As you join individual sticks in a bundle, the task of breaking the bundle becomes harder. By the time the bundle of 53 sticks is made, no individual hand can break the bundle. It surfaces from this activity that unity is strength. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The 53 sticks represent African countries.  Let us pretend, a rather ignorant pretense, that no external country intents to break us. We have nature fighting us with different calamities. We are punished daily because of the egocentric nature of those African leaders against unity. And we have read and seen it in the news, countries declaring hunger, disease, and other calamities as national disasters while others are at the same time struggling with excesses of the deficient resources in other countries. Trade restrictions of all kind hinder the movement of resources amongst brothers. Funny enough, neighbors buy excess from our brothers, and after a few days of “adding value” sell the same product to our starved brother at double the price. That is why the neighbor though in a union herself, will do her best to prevent the unity. </div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">If you ask if it is right to deny a brother the advantages of proximity to a blessed brother, or whether something should be done so that he enjoys the benefits, I am sure someone will soon accuse you for wanting to interfere with the market mechanism. Which market, the market that has prohibited the export of khat to the European Union or the one that requires impossible healthy standards for the export of food that we eat to the states? A few of our African sticks have already been broken by wars, tell me, you antagonist of the one Africa argument, how many sticks do want to see broken so that you can rush in to a union? Trade restrictions are necessary, but no individual country can impose them well as an individual. We cannot threaten retaliation in case of an external tariff unless we are a block. </div>

This is Why I Say...You are Not What People See

<p>As life moves on, one of the basic lessons I’ve learnt is that I should never look at you and despise you because of either the circumstance I see you in or imagine exists thereof around you. I also learnt that life’s battles are not won through negative rhetoric since you just might never know, the other person might be the biblical JOSEPH you never imagined he or she would eventually be! </p><p>Moreover I learnt that waking up each morning to go to work is no reason to imagine that I have finally “arrived” and that jobs and possessions can varnish within a split second but golden souls reign with no limits. </p><p>In all this I asked myself, what is more important, the small job I have that makes me forget the bigger picture that life is or just being happy in life, with or without niceties, with or without jobs? </p><p>I have a few logical lessons that I carry each day in this journey of life as we celebrate each milestone that we achieve: <br>(Make peace with all your mistakes and erroneous judgements so they don’t spoil your journey towards happiness- remember happiness is not about your job or cash, someone else in campus is soon graduating to take over your office!! (What others think and take time to talk about is entirely none of your business- let them talk and spend their airtime calling as you rectify your faults and move forward. (Do not start comparing your life with others- whether you feel you are better placed compared to them or otherwise- you have absolutely no idea what their journey is all about! </p><p>God has a good plan for you! Each one of us visiting any social site today will realize that there has been a sudden upsurge of the profile pictures with men and ladies with gowns and caps. It is very attractive indeed. That prompted me to abandon the task at hand, at least for a moment and exploit in this article some of the possibilities for those of us who have finally graduated. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The story cannot be the same for all of us. Therefore, after graduation we must choose amongst several competing paths to the future. The future remains uncertain and therefore we ought to be careful not to talk about the paths different people take today. Some graduate to land to very well paying jobs. Others have to wait for such a long time before they settle on any employment. Others from well off families will have the benefit of furthering their studies right away. Some few bold ones may take to begin their own businesses. </div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">If you land for a job right away, thank God for it. If you won’t, fine, you may as well find something else to do while in waiting. Either you may engage yourself in furthering your degree, or, because the times are mean for many of us in terms of finances, you may find it beneficial to learn from the Internet a few tricks on starting something small that will generate some immediate income. A small business would do. Starting a small business may not be any easier especially for those of us without any experience in running a business. Fortunately, the age of the Internet is here to save us, by using search engines, you will be able to get different sites and organizations that offer on-line entrepreneurship training courses for free or at some small fee. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">For example I have found YEC and Mind tools very advantageous for young entrepreneurs.  Remember that much as many of the entrepreneurs had passion for business, many were driven to them by circumstances. By this I mean, lack of a job may not necessarily mean a curse but may be a hidden blessing. Just try something as you wait. I wish you all the best young entrepreneurs.</div>

One thing I have learnt in my life so far is that sometimes growing up sucks and it is not easy, but something that I have learnt as well is that reliving my childhood isn't as difficult. In there we discovered this question may be interpreted to extract there from three different bases of our arguments. I love Africa, and you too understand the spirit of pan-Africanism that has been a fore front agenda of many independent African states. Among the many reasons as to why the process of unionization has taken longer than anticipated is one that still some states have not accepted that uniting as an Africa is in the interest of all. They fear that some more powerful African states are using the argument for one Africa as a veil for their hidden motive which they just don’t know. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">As a proponent, I have taken it upon me to argue for the one Africa state. I split my question in to three interpretations that would aid me drive my argument home. Today, I respond to the first interpretation. That is, why does it have to be Africa and not any other continent? We may as well join the more mature blocks. Remember I chose to base my arguments on business and trade and how the unity benefits will trickle down to individuals far away from the continent’s negotiation table like me and you.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Generally, we cannot join the already established blocks because they don’t accept other states to freely join their trade block. As a matter of fact they formed such blocks so that they could exclude from them those nations that did not share with them their agenda of ‘united development for all’.  But more, they encountered similar challenges that could best be tackled in unity. Though uniting posed the risk of a united fall, the happier end that could accrue from the bargaining strength achieved won the favor of the many opinion makers of that time. It is apparent that in conclusion it was the environment that the west countries were in that favored the formation of their unions. </div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The environment was similar if not less grievous than the one African states are living in.  Therefore, it is in attempt to fight common problems that animals as well as humans form unions. Common problems for the nation often narrow down to individuals. Arguably, it is the fear of this common problems that lead to the formation of united faces amidst internal conflicts; from simple and informal togetherness like a gentlemen’s agreements in business to the other end of formal units like the European Union or the United States of America. So, as to why Africa, the response would be by looking at any common problems that we may have. Do we have any at all? Disease, poverty, worsening terms of trade, negative balance of payments, and many more problems of interest that affect individuals, nations and the entire continent argue more for unionization of Africa than they argued for unity of the European Union.</div>

The best reason for any actions is based on self interest. The reason we stand for others is because in most cases there is a deep desire in our hearts that we seek to satisfy by attending to others. By this reasoning, the best means of convincing a man to help you reach your end is by proving to them that your interest is their interest lest you want to result in authoritarianism. I value freedom to justice.  So in my next few articles, I will show you why it is in the best interest for us to unite as a one Africa. But that only if you have already agreed with me that unless it brings something for you it is of no use for you. Food means different things to different people; to someone suffering from malnutrition it is a life saver, for someone suffering from an eating disorder it is an enemy but which ever side you are on let your food love you not only in this season but through out the year or years.<br><br>Over the past few months when staring out my healthy body and hair journey I came to discover that food is an important part of my journey so of late I have found myself watching a lot of food shows and researching about various types of food. What you eat basically builds you up physically that is but did you know that food can determine your mood or change it?<br><br>Being a foodie doesn't mean you are a glutton it just means you are a creative person who enjoys to eat and share good food.<br><br>So I guess I am on  a third journey one to being a foodie I am actually starting to appreciate more of what is available locally and being a foodie creativity is key so making those foods interesting and tasty is important.<br><br>Love what I am seeing on our TV stations of late "<i>The return of cook shows: Royco Fuata Flava on Citizen tv and Pika Chakula to be aired on NTV</i>" it gives me the chance to experiment.<br><br><br>It is Christmas time and with festivities you cannot afford to go wrong with your food. Be a foodie; experiment, save (by making meals at home), and most importantly bond (no better way to bond with family but over a meal or better yet when cooking). WHY KENYAN YOUTH ARE THE MOST EXTRAVAGANT IN AFRICA

<p>A consumer survey published in the third week of November, has established that Kenyan youth are the most extravagant in Africa, beating their relatively wealthier counterparts in South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt in consumption spending. </p><p>Thirty-two per cent of Kenyan youth interviewed in the 'Deloitte Consumer Review' report said they prefer buying well-known brands because it makes them feel good, compared to 25 per cent in South Africa, 23 per cent in Nigeria and 20 per cent in Egypt.</p><p>Kenyan youth also spend more cash just to keep up with the rapidly changing trends in the fashion world.</p><p>However, can these youth splurge<br>similar amounts of cash in investments? You. Every day with you (not just on your birthday) is a celebration of the day your big eyes looked into mine and pulled my arms and heart to you.<br>Every moment with you is magical, a blessing and a wonder, even through the tears and tantrums.<br>Today as you turn four, memories<br>flood my mind as I think about your first steps, the humming you do when you’re loving your food, your first word and the fact that to this day Aunty Gladys, Miss Zahra, Mrs Ali at school and I are praying you will learn to walk — because all you do my darling is run.<br>Everyday, in awe and absolute glee, I notice that you are growing and learning more and more. Now you’re favourite phrase is “how about Mummy, how about...”<br>Gone are the days I held my breathe as you went down the slide. Now I watch you ride or swim and wish for the slide. THE NEW MODEL SUZUKI VITARA 2015

<p>The replacement for Grand Vitara is here. Two engines will be offered: a petrol and a diesel, both 118bhp units displacing 1.6 litres, but with the petrol delivering 115lb ft of torque and the diesel 236lb ft. The petrol gets a five-speed manual gearbox, the diesel six speeds, and there’s a six-speed automatic to follow for the petrol. Performance and fuel consumption details are scant, but the 4x4 petrol car we tested delivers official average fuel consumption of 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 130g/km.<br>The Vitara is based on the SX4 S-<br>Cross, which is Suzuki’s larger and more practical offering in this market. And the four-wheel-drive system is similar to the SX4’s, with an electronic/hydraulic controlled clutch pack and a more sophisticated and stronger cam-based engagement<br>system than some rivals. It is<br>controlled by a switch down beside<br>the (mercifully manual) hand brake.<br>In the ‘Auto’ setting, the Vitara is front-wheel drive unless slip is<br>detected, whereupon the rear wheels are clutched in. ‘Sport’ diverts 20 per cent of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels when it determines the car is being driven in a spirited manner. ‘Snow’ switches to a default setting of four-wheel drive, diverting different amounts of torque to the rear according to steering and accelerator. And ‘Lock’ simply splits the torque equally between front and rear. In addition the Vitara gets a hill-descent control<br>system, which modulates the brakes to help you descend steep and slippery hills slowly.</p><p>The interior is generously<br>proportioned, with plenty of room<br>around the front seats and decent- sized if shallow door pockets. QFM just as their sister station Easy FM will be relaunching on 12 December 2014 and Teacher Wanjiku has landed an opportunity alongside Comedian Kajairo to host a show. Provided whatever I am doing puts food on my table, why should I care? We knew our dead brothers would in a way forgive us for forgiving the irresponsibility that had caused their deaths. We prayed earnestly that our rule would prevail this trying time and maybe thereafter we would make it a national slogan. And our motto as a country would be “fake it till you make it.” However, in a sudden turn of things, top agents of security tried in a last resort to replace the principle of giving excuses with that of faking it for the second time. They tried to be news reporters. Instead of giving reasons and excuses, they only would appear on T.V reporting things they are supposed to undertake. Like a child who blames the older brother for their own mistakes to the parent, they have come up with such a reporting strategy. And they would tell us, so and so is against us, so and so wants this country to go to war, this party wants to destabilize the country. </div><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">I with fellow fakers roared in anger to denounce this ungodly act. How dare someone fake it for the second time when my first fake has not even succeeded? We told them to the eye, what you are giving as our problem is your problem to handle. A fake neurosurgeon asked them in agony, if I forget a scissors in my patient’s tummy, do I make that your problem? I take it upon me to remove the scissors silently before the patient losses life. Therefore, you, if you know who is behind these killings, be it the opposition or the proverbial seven demons, deal with it and stop them. Don’t just report to us, otherwise you are faking it for the second time. We are sure for one, we can never go into war, besides, despite our expertise we cannot fake war. We will stay at peace with fellow fakers because our endeavors can only succeed in a peaceful environment. Only you stop nagging us by trying to fake it for the second time.</div>
