Oppo R5 at 4.5mm thickness

Its 4.85mm body makes it, as far as we can tell, the thinnest smartphone in the known universe, beating the record set by the 5.1mm-thin Gionee Elife S5.1.

While the camera does bulge out significantly (making the iPhone 6 Plus' camera bulge look positively tiny in comparison), it still doesn't detract from the overall feeling of incredible sleekness.

Of course, after some users' experience with the iPhone 6 Plus, the big question surrounding slimline phones is: Will it bend? We can report that there was some flex present in the sample we were using, but other models at the launch event felt much sturdier, even when pressure was applied. We're chalking our first experience up to a pre-production sample issue for now.

It also apparently has a 'phase-shifting material' inside it which apparently improves thermal efficiency, keeping it cooler when running. It sounds great, but without an opportunity to warm the phone's processor up, we're keeping our skeptical hats firmly on until our full review.

Coupled with its crazy dimensions, it's a device you'll want to hold, for the sake of holding it.
