A South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) student found himself facing the law after he was alleged to have raped a casual worker in the school.

Joseph Nthenge, a third year economics student at the University's main campus was arraigned in a Kitui court where two charges were read against him; The charges stated that on the evening of February 17, 205 at Kwa Vonza market, he raped the woman and the other charge was that he indecently assaulted the woman. The rape incident is alleged to have happened after the student lured his victim into his private hostel at Kwa Vonza market.

He either denied both charges and was released on Sh50,000 cash bail pending trial.

On the other hand the University administration denied Social media reports that the rape incident involved one of its lecturers.

Speaking to a Media house the University's Public Relations officer Fiona Mucheni said that, "There's no such report. The whole story is untrue and fabricated rumors. We will not hesitate taking stern legal action against any media house that carries the story,"
