Since the start of the Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON), a friend of mine tells me that he doesn't know anything about it and which teams are participating! With time I realize it is not him alone after some guys discuss the same games on a matatu I boarded from town.

Why is it that very few people are following the AFCON, and not only the AFCON but Africa football matches? I asked the same friend about English premier league game and he knows the outcome of every match even of those teams that he is not a fan.

The question which sticks in my mind is, how can the Africa games be made more attractive? To me there is a point where the organizers of this games miss the point where they should go back to the drawing table and rectify it.

For instance, Availability of tickets to the match venues, advertising more the matches through the media and also steering campaign to inform Africans about this games and how they should participate to support their own.

Making the match bigger is the strategy, which the organizers don't do. Make Africa stand for their teams by increasing the fan base.

As fans its also our time to stand up and show the rest of the world our spirit.
